At St. Andrews, we spare no expense when it comes to the lifestyle experience we create. And in March we were pleased to once again host one of the marquee events of our social calendar: the 2013 Men’s Classic Golf Tournament.

It was a fun and memorable day as always—featuring great golf, entertainment for the whole family, and of course community and friendship. The tournament itself ended in thrilling fashion with a playoff, much to the delight of the audience. But even more important that the result of the tournament was the sense of community that was felt by all present. At St. Andrews, our members really are like family, and all of us – members, guests, and staff – truly enjoyed opportunity to spend quality time together in the great outdoors. In today’s increasingly fragmented and fast-paced world it is nice to know that families and individuals can come together to enjoy a great community event like our Men’s Golf Classic!

The community and the personal connections at St. Andrews are what makes the experience truly unique. While many “communities” really consist of a collection of individuals, at St. Andrews our members, guests, and support staff have a special bond. It’s a bond created by our commitment to the community, our love of the St. Andrews lifestyle… and of course by our enjoyment of world-class golf, tennis, and entertainment.

As our members know, at St. Andrews Country Club we take great pride in providing an unparalleled lifestyle for our members. That commitment is the reason we provide two championship 18-hole golf courses, an exceptional dining experience, and countless social opportunities for members and their families. It is the reason we work hard to understand the needs and desires of our members—and it’s the reason we work so hard to put on great events like the Golf Classic. If you had the opportunity to attend the event, or participate, you understand why it was such a special day. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity, we hope that you will be able to join us for the Golf Classic next year.

The team at St. Andrews is passionate about our members. We work tirelessly to keep our facilities in phenomenal condition, and our chefs spare no expense while delivering mouth-watering taste sensations to our members every single day. And when it comes to planning events to give our community a chance to enjoy each other and strengthen relationships, we do whatever it takes to make each event a success! The 2013 Men’s Classic Golf Tournament was certainly no exception, and we hope you enjoyed it! We’ve created a video recapping the event which you can watch below:

That’s why we were thrilled last month when Ivan Lendl, Aaron Krickstein and Jimmy Arias played on St. Andrews Country Club’s center court during a complimentary tennis exhibition for club members as a precursor to the ATP Champions Tour. The crowd was treated to world-class tennis and light hearted banter spearheaded by Brett Haber, renowned top tennis analyst and commentator. St. Andrews members then supported Krickstein as he finished 3rd in the ATP Champions Tour on Monday, February 25.

The crowd of 600 watched the free tennis exhibition at St. Andrews’ center court where Krickstein defeated Lendl in a singles match before teaming up with Arias to defeat Lendl and Simon Evelyn, St. Andrews Tennis Professional.

Ed Rice, Tennis Chair of the Board of Governors of St. Andrews Country Club said, “Aaron does a great job putting together memorable tennis exhibitions for our members. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to watch these former top world ranked tennis professionals from the best seats, right in your own backyard.”

Just days after the exclusive tennis exhibition, the St. Andrews Country Club members filled the stands at the Delray Beach Stadium and Tennis Center on February 22, 23 & 24 to watch ATP Champions Tour matches between Aaron Krickstein, defending ATP Champion Carlos Moya, Mark Philippoussis and Mats Wilander. Krickstein played well in his first match against Moya but lost the match after two sets 6-4, 6-4 on Friday night. However, Krickstein came back and won his next two matches against Philippoussis and Wilander to capture 3rd Place in the tournament. Other notable champions playing included John McEnroe and Pat Cash.

Krickstein, formerly ranked as high as six in the world, is a nine-time ATP tour titlist and also still holds the records as the youngest player to win an ATP Tour event at age 16, and the youngest in the world top ten at age 17. During his career he had victories over Sampras, Agassi, Becker, Edberg, McEnroe, Chang and Lendl, among others. When not competing, Krickstein is the Director of Tennis at St. Andrews Country Club where for 12 years he has had the opportunity to help kids and adults improve their tennis games.

“I want to thank Ivan, Jimmy, Brett and Simon for a great night of tennis at St. Andrews,” said Krickstein. “I also want to thank the St. Andrews members who attended the tennis exhibition and the ATP Champions matches over the past weekend, specifically the Moya match on Friday night. The commitment to building an active tennis program at St. Andrews is evident from the growing participation and support each year. ”

At St. Andrews, we don’t settle for mediocrity. Our members expect an unparalleled lifestyle experience, and our team works tirelessly to deliver it. This tennis exhibition was the latest in a long line of memorable events—stay tuned to see what’s coming up next!

St. Andrews Country Club has always been about much more than just a one-of-a-kind lifestyle experience. At St. Andrews, we’re a community. And we’re committed to making a difference in the world around us. That’s why this month, we were proud to host the sixth annual Morgan and Friends Fight Cancer Tournament. Each year, St. Andrews Resident Touring Professional Morgan Pressel and fellow LPGA superstars host the tournament in order to further the fight against breast cancer. This year’s event raised $540,000, and to date funds raised entirely through the generosity of St. Andrews Country Club members and various sponsors of the Morgan Pressel Foundation totals $2,740,000.

Morgan Pressel partnered with Michael Israel, internationally renowned performance artist, and LPGA Tour stars Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson and St. Andrews Country Club members to raise funds to support the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan, research initiatives and other breast cancer related projects. Each year the event enjoys significant growth from St. Andrews Country Club member participation, sponsors and donations.

Pressel said, “I am so appreciative of the support from my fellow St. Andrews members who continually amaze me with their generosity towards the foundation and the fight against breast cancer. I also can’t thank the Morgan Pressel Foundation committee enough for their commitment to creating an outstanding event year after year. The record funds raised this year are due a large part to Paula, Brittany, Lexi and Michael and their participation and generosity of their time, and I thank you all.”

The event kicked off Sunday evening with an exclusive cocktail reception, dinner and silent and live auctions including a spectacular performance by Michael Israel who created five paintings for the auction. Monday winning bidders played holes with an LPGA star and enjoyed an incredible golf exhibition put on by Morgan & her Friends, entertaining more than 150 club members with anecdotes about their career, hitting shots and sharing tips with the members.

Craig D. Martin, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager at St. Andrews Country Club summarized, “We are proud of Morgan, her foundation and all of the St. Andrews Country Club members for putting together another first-class golf tournament and fund raising effort. It is hard to keep topping the previous year’s event but Morgan and her teams continue to expand participation and funds raised. I am always impressed by the professionalism and five-star logistics executed by the foundation and our professional staff.”

At St. Andrews, our members take their commitment to the community seriously. We were proud to once again partner with Morgan and her fellow LPGA professionals, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come! If you’d like to learn more about this event, or if you’d like to partner with us in upcoming initiatives, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us today!

As many of you know, St. Andrews recently began a $2.2 million club improvement project. Now, we are pleased to announce that phase I of the project has been successfully completed. At St. Andrews, our top priority is providing an unparalleled experience for our members and guests, and this club improvement project is yet another demonstration of this commitment.

Phase I club of our construction improvement plan was finished in mid-November and included complete renovation of men’s and ladies’ locker rooms, men’s card room and reconstructed Olde Course bunkers. Phase II of the construction improvement plan is expected to begin in May 2013 with a target completion date of November 2013.

Leo A. Daly, Weitz Construction and New York based John Saladino Design Group worked closely with the St. Andrews Country Club Construction Committee and professional staff to ensure the membership would be pleased with the final product.

Michael Goldman, President, St. Andrews CC Board of Governors stated, “Members feedback has been extremely positive and we are appreciative of the work put forth by Ed Cooperman, Construction Committee Chair and his team. They put in a lot of hours with the vendors to guarantee a high quality renovation.”

Phase II will begin in April 2013 and includes the recreation and aquatic center, extensive clubhouse enhancements and updates to the dining and lounge areas. Phase III will begin June 2014 with improvements to Lakeside, a free-standing dining and entertainment facility.

Many prospective members seeking real estate in private residential communities are attracted to those clubs offering renovated and upgraded facilities, reputable service and family-oriented amenities. The 3-year strategic improvement plan includes facility upgrades, replacements, and expansion that meets the needs of current and future members.

“Phase I is the first step in our strategic plan to attract younger members to the community with upgraded facilities and Phase II enhancements to the recreation and dining areas will encourage and promote spaces for families of all ages to enjoy,” added Craig D. Martin C.C.M., St. Andrews CC COO/GM. “St. Andrews is a leader in the Boca Raton market for benchmarking standards of excellence. We are committed to protecting members’ real estate interests and attracting new members who seek the highest quality of facilities and service.”

At St. Andrews, nothing is more important to us than the lifestyle we provide for our members. That is the reason our chefs work hard to provide incredible meals to each member day in and day out. That’s why we work so hard to keep our two 18-hole championship golf courses in pristine condition. And that is why we have invested a significant amount of time and resources into our club improvement plan. Our members know that we work day and night to ensure their comfort and exceed their expectations, and they know that we will do whatever it takes to provide a one-of-a-kind experience—and now that phase I of our club improvement project is complete, this commitment is more clear than ever!

At St. Andrews, our focus is always on providing each member with an unparalleled lifestyle experience. Of course, we understand that our Club represents more than just a community and a home for our members—it’s also an important investment. And that’s why we’re delighted to report that the real estate market here at St. Andrews is continuing to pick up momentum.

A 43% increase in real estate sales over the previous year at St. Andrews Country Club also delivered a resurgence of home builder activity within the private, member-only golf and country club community. In the past year, 27% of the real estate sales were priced between $750,000-$1,000,000 with 24% of homes selling in the price range of $1.6 million to $5 million. Home builder activity including new construction grew 21% over the previous fiscal year. The significant increase in real estate sales has also created a shift in demographics for the Club by adding families from Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Estonia.

And if you think that these positive developments have led to complacency, think again! Recently the St. Andrews Country Club membership approved a $15 Million Club Improvement Plan that includes a redesign of multiple areas including the clubhouse, two restaurants, main entry features, and the recreation and aquatic center. The construction improvement plan is expected to include three phases of development with a target completion date of November 2014.

Craig D. Martin C.C.M., St. Andrews Country Club Chief Operating Officer and General Manager said, “For the past five years our goal has been to protect our brand promise and members’ real estate interests and investments while attracting new members who appreciate the highest quality of facilities and service. We believe the added focus of our Club Improvement Plan on the recreation and dining areas has helped encourage and promote spaces for families of all ages to enjoy.”

Phase I of the Club Improvement Plan encompasses the men’s card room and both men’s and ladies’ locker rooms as well as improvements to the Olde Course, and will be complete in November. Phase II will begin in April 2013 and includes the recreation and aquatic center, extensive clubhouse enhancements and updates to the dining and lounge areas. Phase III will begin June 2014 with functional and practical improvements to Lakeside, a free-standing dining and entertainment facility.

Michael Goldman, President, St. Andrews Country Club Board of Governors stated, “We are pleased to see that our membership and marketing programs have been effective in attracting new, diverse members. The Board of Governors and the membership are fully committed to the new strategic direction the club is taking over the next few years to continue attracting younger members to the community and the Club Improvement Plan is a major step forward in accomplishing this goal.”

Many prospective members seeking real estate in private residential communities are attracted to those clubs offering great upgraded facilities, reputable service and family-oriented amenities. The three-year Club Improvement Plan provides a roadmap for the club and facility upgrades, replacements or expansion that meets the needs of current and future members. If you have any questions or you’d like to learn more, please get in touch with us today!

At St. Andrews, we make it a point to give back to the local community—especially to individuals and families that are struggling in this difficult economy. That’s why we, along with Addison Reserve Country Club and Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club, are glad to continue the tradition of coming together to aid Congregation B’nai Israel of Boca Raton and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in their 28th consecutive Feed the Hungry Program that provides Thanksgiving dinner to over 3,000 area residents on Tuesday, November 20. St. Andrews Country Club has spearheaded giving traditional Thanksgiving side dishes by recruiting other area clubs to participate.

Organizers of Feed the Hungry reached out to Craig Martin, C.C.M., COO & General Manager of St. Andrews Country Club to reach out to his colleagues to provide side dishes to help their cause. Martin commented, “It is so important for both people and organizations to pitch in to help those less fortunate, especially as our economy slowly improves. What has become an annual event is rewarding for all parties involved and I am once again moved by the St. Andrews Country Club Board of Governors and my fellow Club Managers Association members who continue to provide all of the items requested.”

“Craig Martin and his colleagues Michael McCarthy, CEO & General Manager of Addison Reserve Country Club and Chuck Lehner, COO & General Manager of Boca Grove Golf & Tennis Club offered assistance without hesitation. We are thankful the area clubs, especially St. Andrews and Boca Grove who have partnered with us for the past four years and want to express our gratitude to them, and especially to Craig for his support,” said Janyce Speier, a Feed the Hungry volunteer and St. Andrews Country Club member.

The three country clubs are providing mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, rolls and stuffing to Congregation B’nai Israel of Boca Raton and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Over 3,000 people, mostly children, come from Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, Delray Beach and West Palm Beach are expected to partake in this 28 year old tradition of fellowship, love and respect. Each person will leave with a small leftover treasure for them to eat during the week.

Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving feast on November 20 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 200 NE 12 Street, Boca Raton, FL 33432. Directions: Dixie Highway south, turn left after Glades Road. Follow the road around to the left of the church. For additional information, call CBI Coordinator Greg Jacobs at 561-239-0016 or Ebenezer Church at 561-391-7357. The church building will be used to stage the food, dessert and beverage areas, tents will cover the parking lots with plenty of tables, chairs, lighting and volunteer DJ’s. The two congregations provide roundtrip buses to some neighborhoods for families and children.

At St. Andrews, we recognize the importance of supporting the local community—particularly in a challenging economy such as we are currently experiencing. We are honored to have the opportunity to give back to the community—and we urge you to join us!

Most of our members have heard about our recently approved $15 million club improvement project that will be occurring over the next couple of years. Last month, we were excited to announce that John Saladino has been selected to handle the interior design portion of the project. And now, we are equally thrilled to announce that the architectural firm will be Leo A Daly. If the name sounds familiar to you, it’s because St. Andrews has partnered with the West Palm Beach firm several times over the past three years, on projects including our golf performance center, new golf restrooms, and our new golf starter booth. Each of these projects were greeted by rave reviews from our members and guests, and we have no doubt that you will be thrilled with this project, as well.

Established in 1915, Leo A Daly is an internationally renowned architecture, planning, engineering, interior design and program management firm. Their portfolio includes award-winning projects in 77 countries, all 50 states, and the District of Columbia. The firm currently employs approximately 1,000 architects, planners, engineers and interior designers in 30 offices worldwide. It consistently ranks in the top largest architecture/engineering and interior design firms in the US, and is listed in BD World Architecture’s top 25 global practices.

Encouraged by a legacy of innovative leadership and the resources of a large firm, their inspired professionals work creatively in flexible teams, customized specifically for each project. They draw on a rich history, dedication to design excellence and an unyielding focus on quality to create exceptional spaces that enhance and enrich the human experience.

The Leo A Daly Company includes Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), which has extensive experience in engineering, infrastructure consulting and program management, and provides these services in conjunction with other Leo A Daly design services.

St. Andrews is excited to announce that we have selected Weitz Construction to implement our exciting club improvement project. As you know, this project includes redesign of multiple areas including the clubhouse, two restaurants, main entry features and landscaping, and the recreation and aquatic center. The construction improvement plan is expected to take three phases of development with a target completion date of November 2014.

The Weitz Company of today descends from a small carpentry shop founded in 1855 in Fort Des Moines, Iowa by Charles H. Weitz, an entrepreneurial German immigrant. As the construction company grew, Weitz handed down his craft and sense of values and quality to his sons, who in turn passed the family business on to their children for four generations.

Always an innovator, The Weitz Company pioneered the development of precast concrete exterior wall construction and became one of the largest producers of architectural precast concrete. During World War II, The Weitz Company supported the war effort by constructing ammunition plants in record time.

March 1995 marked the culmination of 140 years of Weitz family leadership and the emergence of an employee-owned company purchased debt-free by 36 stockholders. Today, the number of employee shareholders has increased to more than 300 and continues to expand. Since 1995, Weitz has grown from a $250 million general contractor to a $1 billion industry leader, a true testament to the company’s long history of client-centered services and financial stability.

As you know, at St. Andrews we take our responsibility to our members, our community, and our environment seriously—and we insist that our partners do, as well. Weitz Construction is guided by a number of “core values” which we found to be particularly impressive. And having worked with them in the past, we know that they take these values seriously. They are:

Honesty and Integrity – “We deal honestly and fairly. Integrity and adoption of a high ethical standard of conduct are crucial in dealing with clients, designers, subcontractors, vendors and each other.”

Respect for People – “We value relationships. We strive for a friendly, cooperative, informal and safe workplace, where trust, openness, and respect for individuals are a matter of course.”

Performance with Absolute Reliability – “We aim to be the best in our various businesses and in the markets we serve. We will achieve this by solving customers’ problems and meeting their needs through superior performance, with absolute reliability.”

Nurturing Personal Growth – “We encourage individual growth: growth through training, career development opportunities, and feedback on performance. We reward growth by emphasizing promotion from within. We depend upon and attempt to foster long-term employee relationships.”

We’re extremely excited to be working with Weitz Construction—and we know that you are going to love their work. If you’d like to learn more about them, visit their website at http://www.weitz.com. If you have questions about the improvement project in general, give us a call today!

“Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.” – Native American Proverb

At St. Andrews, we are committed to our local community and our environment. In addition to providing an unparalleled lifestyle experience for our members, we believe that it is our responsibility to live in a sustainable way—and to take care of our pristine surroundings here in beautiful Boca Raton. We understand that while our environment is beautiful, it is also fragile—and we’re committed to taking steps to ensure that our children and grand-children will be able to enjoy South Florida as much as we have.

To that end, we have devoted a substantial amount of time and resources to projects designed to develop effective conservation and wildlife enhancement programs. George Kervern, our Director of Golf Course Maintenance, has developed and executed a plan to ensure that our club, and specifically our golf courses, are as friendly to the environment as possible.

We are pleased to announce that last month, Audubon International certified St. Andrews in Wildlife and Habitat Management. This certification was granted in response to the many steps we have taken to protect the many species of plants and animals that inhabit our property, as well as the habitat in which they live.

Specifically, Audubon noted the increase in native vegetation on our grounds as having a positive impact on many species of birds and small mammals by providing them with much-needed food. We’ve increased the wooded under story in our forested areas, which Audubon notes is vital to the survival of these species. And Audubon also commended our efforts to increase vegetated shorelines, which both provides a habitat for native animals and also buffers and protects the water on our property.

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses provides an advisory service to help existing golf courses develop effective conservation and wildlife enhancement programs. This worldwide effort is coordinated by Audubon International and is sponsored in part by the United States Golf Association. Country Clubs such as St. Andrew’s have a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment around us due to the large amount of land we occupy, and we believe that we bear a responsibility to be a good steward of our resources.

Our participation in Audubon’s program illustrates our commitment to the environment around us. We’re proud of what our team has accomplished—and this recent honor is another reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together. If you’d like to learn more about our environmental initiatives, please get in touch today!
